Modals in English Grammar in Hindi
Definition in English – Those helping verbs which refer to the ability, power, capacity, possibility e.t.c. are called the Modals.
Definition in Hindi – वे helping verbs जो योग्यता, क्षमता, शक्ति, संभावना इत्यादि का बोध कराते हैं, उन्हें Modals कहते हैं।
Examples – can, may, might, could, would, should, shall, will, must, dare, need, used to ought to.
Uses of Modals in Hindi
Uses of ‘Can’ –
1 . Can का प्रयोग “ability, capacity या power” को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
Ram can do this work.
Ganesh can speak English.
2 . Can का प्रयोग आधुनिक Grammar में “Permission” लेने के लिए भी किया जाता हैं लेकिन May का प्रयोग ज्यादा प्रचलित हैं।
जैसे –
Can I take your pen?
Can I come in? (Famous = May I come in?)
Uses of ‘May’ –
1 . May का प्रयोग Permission लेने या देने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
May I come in, Sir?
May I help you?
2 . May का प्रयोग Possibility (संभावना) को व्यक्त करने के लिए भी किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
He may pass the examination.
It may rain today.
3 . May का प्रयोग Optative Sentences बनाने में किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
May you live long!
May he die soon!
Uses of ‘Might’ –
1 . Past Tense में May के बदले might का प्रयोग किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
Rohan said that Aslam might pass the examination.
2 . might का प्रयोग कम संभावना को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं और May का प्रयोग अधिक संभावना को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
It may rain today.
It might rain today.
Uses of ‘Could’ –
1 . Past Tense में Can के बदले Could का प्रयोग किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
Mohan said that Rohan could speak English.
2 . Could का प्रयोग Past की ability, capacity या power को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
When, he was young, he could run fast.
Uses of ‘Would’ –
1 . Past Tense में will के बदले would का प्रयोग किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
He said that We would go there.
2 . Would का प्रयोग Present और Past के unreal situation को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
If I were a bird, I would fly in the sky.
If He had come here, I would have taught him.
3 . Would का प्रयोग Past की Habit को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
He would come here.
I would beat him.
4 . would का प्रयोग wish (कामना) को व्यक्त करने के लिए भी किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
I would like to meet you.
Uses of ‘Should’ –
1 . should का प्रयोग advice, duty या obligation को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
You should take medicine in time.
One should do one’s duty.
2 . lest, Conjunctions के बाद should का प्रयोग किया जाता है इसका अर्थ होता हैं की और यह Negative Word हैं। Lest Conjunctions से शुरू होने वाले वाक्यों में not का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता हैं।
जैसे –
Work hard lest you should fail in the examination.
